Selam Ethiopian & Eritrean Cuisine
Orlando, FL
February 17, 2019
We were on our way out of Florida, but needed just one more meal before getting to the plane and flying home. We were hungry, but not quite starving, and so many places seemed to be closed on Sundays. Fortunately, the mobile device told us that just up ahead we might be able to resolve our never-ending craving for Ethiopian food. We love injera, and we've yet to meet a wot we don't like either. The only difficult thing in visiting a new Ethiopian place is deciding what to try.
We weren't expecting the moon when we saw the very strip-mall location, but we were impressed when we walked into what may be the most beautiful Ethiopian restaurant we have seen east of Seattle. The decor was downright elegant, and I'd have felt underdressed had I not seen four tables with groups dressed in shorts and flip-flops. My hiking boots and cargo pants aside, the staff were friendly and warm, and we felt welcome immediately.
Raz was even hungrier than I was, and his face lit up with glee when he read the description of Ye Beg Lamb Tibs. I was debating between eating my vegetables and getting Kitfo (which is my all-time favorite meal). Raz insisted on the Selam Veggie Special so we could try all the vegetables, and suggested I get the Kitfo too. I would have if we were in Florida one more night, and I'd have simply had veggie wot for breakfast, but that wasn't the case. So, lamb and veggies it was. They did make sure that we had no problem with the dishes being combined on the platter before going to make it all. That bit of checking makes sense, but I appreciate that we were able to get everything on one platter and eat socially as well.
Despite not being starving, we polished off every last morsel, because every bite was just that good. We are definitely fans, and this will definitely be our first dinner in Florida next time we visit.
