Salt & Straw
Anaheim, CA
November 16, 2018
The place is in Downtown Disney, so I'm not going to hold the premium price tag against them. Fair warning if you drop by, though, they are expensive. They are truly worth the price, however.
We hoofed it across Anaheim two days in a row, went through Disney security twice in a row, and stood in lines around the block two days in a row for this ice cream. What we had wasn't just any ice cream, it was Black Olive Brittle & Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese. While many will look askance at the idea of olives and goat cheese in ice cream, let me tell you of the deep and glorious richness of flavor, stellar creaminess, and salty-sweet-tart flavor explosion. Contrast that deep creaminess with the scattered crunch of the most uniquely flavored candy brittle I have ever tasted, and you have a one-of-a-kind dessert experience.
We also tried the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, which we thought could have used a tad bit more black pepper for kick, but the flavor balance was glorious none the less. We openly admit to being suckers for unique taste, but at the same time we are seriously demanding regarding the texture and flavor balance of our ice cream. In our personal list of best ice cream in the country, Salt & Straw is a contender for the top 3, and definitely worth hiking across Anaheim any time we visit.
