When we came in from a dreary, overcast night in the early part of ski-season, we were greeted by a warmly lit dining room with great antique charm. Seeing the restored original Victorian tin-and-stone drop-ceiling, crystal chandeliers, and dark wood and Tiffany-glass booths, we tightened our belts in expectation of eating light to keep our costs down.
Then we opened our menus, and did double-takes. There were only 2 options listed, and one was prime rib. The entry on that option described a full dinner and listed the same price I would expect to pay for a sirloin of slightly lesser size in any chain steakhouse I'd been in before. I figured that the low price would mean lesser quality, but there was no way Raz and I were headed back into the cold without a hot meal to fortify us, so we planted ourselves at the downright luxurious table we'd been given and ordered. I also put in an order for a hot apple cider for the wait so that I'd have feeling back in my hands before needing to cut into the steak.
The wait was exactly what we would expect from a fine, upscale steakhouse. The server was polite, cheerful, and professional, and when our steaks came to the table, they were perfectly cooked, quality cuts that didn't actually need the included au jus and horseradish for flavor or succulence. Mind you, the included au jus and horseradish still went on my steak due to my love of in-your-face and over-the-top flavors, and I was once again quite pleased with the quality of the offerings. Our accompanying baked potatoes were perfect for soaking up all the juice left, and the bread tasted fresh-baked as well.
We had no room left for dessert, so we can't speak to the quality there, but the few options did sound appetizing, and if we'd been in Leadville for a second night, we would have definitely gone back. We left with a bill under $30 (including a generous tip) for two meals and a drink. I'm not sure we have ever managed that in a steakhouse before. Quincy's definitely became our go-to spot any time we find ourselves in Leadville, and we are now curious to see if the other locations match the original.
