Mahider Ethiopian Restaurant

Salt Lake City, UT

January 11, 2019

We crave Ethiopian food like no other, and so we were excited to see an option on our trip to Salt Lake. We tend to go for whatever special platter comes with the most variety of stews. In this case, that was the "Taste Of Mahider," and we got one. However, the menu also included Kitfo, which is my favorite dish of all time, so we had to get that too.

This was far too much food for 2 people, so no complaint from us about portions of the stews, however, since injera is the only utensil generally used I  the eating of an Ethiopian meal, it's important to have a sufficient supply. We ran out of what was supplied halfway through the Taste Of platter, without having even touched the Kitfo. We had to go to the reception counter to find someone to request more injera after we ran out and failed for 10 minutes to catch the attention of a waitress. The additional injera was only half of what would reasonably be needed to finish the remaining kitfo. When it reached the table (another 10 minutes after the request) we asked for our bill and a box.

I ended up finishing my kitfo back at the hotel, where I could grab a fork. Mind you, despite my troubles with actually eating the food, I'm rating 4-stars. The quality of the food was very high and friendliness of the staff was spot-on (when I could find them). I will be back next time I'm in Salt Lake no doubt, I'll just carry emergency utensils next time...
