Alquds Mediterranean Grill & Grocery

Albuquerque, NM

March 9, 2019

Not sure why it took me so long to hear about Al-Qud's, but rather than bemoan the significant amount of time I hadn't known about the best Falafel in 'Burque, I'll just make up for lost time by visiting more frequently.

The little restaurannt/market on the corner of a strip mall isn't the most elegant of eateries, and that's reflected in very reasonable prices. What this little divey gem lacks in pretension, though, it more than makes up in flavor (double-win in my book). I'm not exaggerating about my statement on the falafel. They pack more savory flavor, (and just a hint of pungent kick) into every little sausage-shaped falafel than any other place we've tried the tasty chick-pea treats.

Surprisingly, though, those great balls of wonder are only number 3 on my list of favorites at Al-Qud's. Number 2 is the Lamb Shawarma (we get the platter with Hummus), and number 1 is the Baba Ghanough. The shawarma is brimming with the essential lambiness of good lamb, enhanced rather than masked by the spicing. The eggplants in the Baba Ghanough are roasted in such a way that the smokiness suffuses every last super creamy bite! I can't emphasize enough  how amazing this place really is!
