Bondi Surf Seafood

Sydney, Australia

November 29, 2019

Bondi is expensive, let's just get that out there. That being said, Bondi Surf Seafoods was about as reasonable as you can get in a tourist-heavy, beachfront food establishment. From the looks and sounds of our fellow customers as we sat at the tiny rear bar, this is where the local workers stop in to get fast, fresh take-away. It's not really meant for eat-in and there wasn't a way to wash-up properly before digging into our freshly grilled tentacle-beasts.

If we'd been at a local hotel and rating this as a take-out experience it would probably get all 5 stars, since the staff was friendly, professional, and fast, and the food was reasonably priced and quite tasty.

Despite my internal trouble about having to eat chips and other obvious finger-foods with a fork to try for slightly greater food safety, this was some excellently grilled Octopus. The sweet-savory marinade had a distinctly Asian flare, and the baby tentacle-beasties were tender rather than rubbery so the master of the grill really knew what she was about. The salad greens were super fresh too, and the proprietors make some fine chips to complement their fresh seafood.

All-in-all, we would definitely stop by this shop should we again find ourselves in the region of Bondi Beach. If we do, though, we'll order takeaway rather than crowd in at the tiny bar, practically sitting on top of the order line.
